Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation through lectures, practical labs, and clinical experience. Upon successful course completion, students are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam, at the EMT level.

The EMT course prepares the student to enter the realm of EMS. The EMT course is a necessity for those who wish to work on an ambulance, but also benefits firefighters, police officers, industrial safety personnel and other healthcare professions. This course provides the student with the knowledge to provide basic life support (BLS) to patients in cardiac arrest, experiencing medical emergencies and those with traumatic injuries.
Details: 1 semester, 7 credits (150 hours).

The Emergency Medical Technician course information session is required in order to register for the EMST 125 course offered at Southern Maine Community College. During this session you will get a detailed overview of the course schedule and expectations, have time to ask questions, and to ensure the course is the right fit for you.

At least 18 years of age
High School diploma, GED
or HiSet
Resident of Maine
Proof of authorization to work
in the U.S.
