Mission Statement

The mission of the Nassau County Emergency Medical Services Academy is to serve the EMS system of Nassau County as the premier provider of initial and continuing emergency medical training and educational services in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible. The EMS Academy is committed to providing its students with the highest quality education, including the knowledge, skills and values necessary to meet the emergency medical health care needs of the residents of Nassau County.

Synopsis

The Nassau County Emergency Medical Services Academy (NCEMSA), located at 300 Winding Road Old Bethpage, New York 11804, is a division of the Nassau County Vocational Education and Extension Board (VEEB). The education program includes a variety of courses designed to prepare confident entry level and advanced level emergency medical services providers, to serve in volunteer and career positions within the various emergency medical response organizations located in Nassau County. In addition, the EMS Academy provides required re-certification training to currently certified and EMS providers whose certifications have expired. Courses are offered to members of fire departments, police organizations, volunteer ambulance corps, as well as proprietary and hospital-based ambulance services.

Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) (137 hours) EMTs are the basic level of EMS provider associated with an ambulance service or rescue squad. These technicians are skilled in the provision of basic life support for the many illnesses and accidents that require emergency medical treatment prior to arrival in a hospital emergency department. EMTs are trained in patient immobilization and packaging procedures needed to prevent further injury and to provide safe transport to an appropriate medical facility. NYS regulations require that a certified ambulance service have a minimum of one EMT with the patient at all times. National College Credit Recommendation Service approved: credit recommendation: 6 semester hours
