“The EMT initial education program is a 220-hour course designed to train individuals to provide comprehensive emergency medical care at the basic life support level to victims of illness or injury. The course is a combination of classroom, skills session, and clinical time. Upon completion of the course, students are able to assess and provide initial emergency care for conditions ranging from simple fractures, stroke, and chest pain to critical trauma, cardiac arrest, and childbirth.

EMT initial certification courses are offered at or near each of Atlantic Health’s medical centers (Morristown, Chilton, Hackettstown, Newton, and Overlook). Please refer to the course listings for exact course locations and upcoming start dates.

Tuition for the EMT initial certification course is $1500 and textbooks must be purchased by the student. We ARE accepting New Jersey EMT Training Fund as payment for the EMT Initial Education course if you are affiliated with a volunteer EMS agency. The NJ EMT training fund covers the cost of tuition only.

To attend the EMT initial certification course hosted by ATC, the following must be completed prior to the course start date:

Minimum age of 16 years old
Valid CPR card (Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescuer level)
Course payment
Criminal history background check
Up to date immunization history including Tb testing within 1 year”
