Get on the health care pathway by taking classes at Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) to prepare for the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) Exam. Students taking this specialty course will gain instruction and hands-on practice in all aspects of emergency medical care at the Emergency Medical Technician level in accordance with the National Registry guidelines.

This training course focuses on care of life-threatening conditions, care of non-life-threatening situations, and other issues related to the care of the sick or injured. The EMT is responsible for providing or continuing the initial care and transporting the patient to the hospital in an ambulance.

Course Requirements
EMS 101 Emergency Medical Technician* Credits: 6
Or both courses below

EMS 120 Emergency Medical Responder** Credits: 3
EMS 125 EMR to EMT Bridge Credits: 3
*Age Requirement: You must be at least 16 years of age to be eligible to certify as an EMT.

**Age Requirement: You must be at least 14 years of age to be eligible to certify as an EMR.

If you are not yet 16 years old, you may enroll in the course with the understanding that your certificate will be held until the age requirement is met.
