Moscow Volunteer Fire & EMS

The Moscow Volunteer Fire Department typically hosts an EMT class twice a year. This intensive 120+ hour course fulfills the requirements for the National Registry EMT Examination (NREMT). Course content includes lecture and hands-on practice in emergency care, bleeding and shock, medical emergencies, lifting and moving patients and other emergency care topics.

APPLICATION AND ADMISSION PROCESS:
Due to high demand for this EMT class, the application process can be very competitive. Only serious applicants should apply. The EMT course is time intensive, with significant out-of-class study, and an additional requirement of clinical participation.

Preference for the course will be given to individuals who live or work in Moscow and are interested in joining our dedicated team of EMS volunteers.

You must be aware that there are attendance requirements and academic standards that must be met to complete this course. There is no guarantee that you will either pass the class or be accepted as an EMT for the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department.

The EMT class application for the Spring class is typically available in December, the Fall Class application is available in July.

REQUIRED APPLICATION ITEMS:
EMT class application
Copy of current driver’s license
Copy of proof of immunizations
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
18 years of age prior to course end.
Current Driver’s License
Physical strength adequate to perform the normal functions of an EMT
A Background check will be conducted on each applicant.
Copy of proof of required immunizations (Hepatitis A, B and MMR).
Current proof of TB Test within year (can be performed at Quick Care, Student Health).
CLASS TUITION AND FEES:
The cost of the class is determined each semester, and will be listed on the class application.. Please note there may be some additional costs incurred such as fees for practical exam, personal equipment and requirements for national and/or state certifications.

Fee for NREMT certification exam
The purchase of a blood pressure cuff & stethoscope
No refunds will be granted after the first week of class unless major medical or military reasons exist.

ABOUT US:
The EMS Division serves as the medical branch of the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department. Our membership is around 60 EMT and Paramedic volunteers that serve the City of Moscow community. We respond to over 2800 emergency calls a year.
