Program Overview

This 2-part course (EMT I and EMT II) is required for any person seeking to become a nationally registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). It is taught by NEMSA/Acadian Ambulance.

Offered in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Covington, Houma, Lafayette, Lake Charles, and New Orleans.
Age: 16+ to take class; 18+ to take national exam.
High School, GED or HiSET required.
Online Course Content: 25 days (100 hours).
Skills Instruction and Practice: up to 98 hours.
Ambulance Clinical Time: 2 12-hour shifts.

This course will provide information on:

the emergency medical service system;
the role and responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician;
communication;
patient packaging;
anatomy, physiology, and pathology;
patient assessment;
airway management and basic cardiac life support;
soft tissue injury care and splinting;
cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
use of supra glottic airways;
extrication;
and patient movement.
