Emergency Medical Technician Basic Program at CMC
Be well-prepared for the National Registry NREMT exam. with our state/nationally approved EMT-B program
The Colorado Health Department requires specific training for those who work as emergency medical technicians in emergency care situations. This program covers those requirements and prepares students for the national examination.

Emergency Medical Technician program graduates are hired or serve as EMT volunteers for ambulance services, police departments, fire departments, ski patrols and search-and-rescue organizations.

The EMT program may be taken in conjunction with other course work or independently. However, because of the limited course requirements, it is not appropriate as a sole course of study for full-time students. Graduates of the program will receive a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency in Emergency Medical Technology.

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate is offered at:

Aspen: Mostly in-person
Breckenridge: Mostly in-person
Carbondale: Mostly in-person
Leadville: Mostly in-person
Rifle: Mostly in-person
Salida: Mostly in-person
Steamboat Springs: Mostly in-person
Vail Valley at Edwards: Mostly in-person

background check, National Registry Exam, and Colorado Certification. Additional requirements may apply at individual clinical sites.

The EMT program may be taken in conjunction with other course work or independently. However, because of the limited course requirements, it is not appropriate as a sole course of study for full-time students. Students must earn a “B” or better in the three EMT courses (EMS 1045, EMS 1046, and EMS 1070) to receive a Colorado Mountain College Certificate of Occupational Proficiency.

Students must be 18 years old before the first day of the course in order to participate. Please note: the curriculum is subject to change based on new National Scope of Practice.

Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in composition and reading as a prerequisite for courses within this certificate. Skills in these areas may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this program. For details see the Academic Placement Methods and Placement Test Options section.

Graduates of the program will receive a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

The EMT certificate is offered at Colorado Mountain College in Aspen, Breckenridge, Carbondale, Leadville, Rifle, Salida, Steamboat Springs, and Vail Valley at Edwards.

CMC also offers certificates in Advanced EMT, Paramedic, Wilderness Emergency Medical Services, Rope Rescue Technician, and Wilderness Medical Professional as well as an Associate of Applied Science degree in EMT Paramedic.
