The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

Program Goals
To prepare competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.

Upon successful completion of this course, graduates are eligible to take the National Registry of EMT exam, the final step towards certification as an EMT.

The course is a total of 160 clock hours.

Didactic Phase: The scheduled course days and hours vary depending on the course format.

Clinical and field rotations are also scheduled.

The total charges the student is obligated to pay upon enrollment is $1,895.00

Required diagnostic kit:
Each student is required to obtain safety shears, pen light, anti-fog eye protection, and stethoscope. These items can be found online or at any medical supply store.

Technology requirements (potential additional student expense)

Courses include online assignments and students must possess, or have access to, an appropriate electronic device: a tablet or laptop is preferred. Computer availability on campus is limited, however wireless internet access is available.

Course Financing
The EMT program does not participate in Title IV Federal Financial Aid Programs. The full tuition is due at the time of registration. Tuition may be paid by check or money order and Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover.

Veteran Education Benefits
NCTI is approved through CSAAVE to accept the Veteran Affairs Montgomery Chapter 30 and Post 9/11 Chapter 33 GI Bill ® Education benefits at most of our California locations.

Students using their Post 9/11 GI Bill Education benefits please fax or email your letter of eligibility or Post 9/11 GI Bill Statement of Benefits from the VA website to 916-960- 6296 or email Lisa.Smith@gmr.net. Upon receipt of eligibility documentation, the student will be contacted with GI Bill application paperwork.

If the Post 9/11 Chapter 33 GI Bill Education benefits do not cover the total cost of tuition, you will be required to pay the difference.

The Post 9/11 GI Bill Education benefits do not cover prerequisite courses, textbooks, immunizations, or post course testing and licensure fees.

Application process Prerequisites
Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
Applicant must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
Applicant must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card prior to the first day of class
Applicant must possess health insurance
Applicant must complete a background check to include a negative drug screen
Proof of immunity or vaccination:
Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR): two shot series or positive titer
Tetanus/diphtheria: Tdap: within the last ten years
Hepatitis B: fully vaccinated or positive titer
Chicken pox (varicella): two shot series or positive titer
Meningitis: documented shot as a teen or adult
Influenza vaccination: during flu season prior to beginning clinical rotations (for the clinical/field phases)
TB testing may be required prior to attending clinical or field internship rotations.
TB/PPD test is a two-step process. If you test positive for tuberculosis, you must present a negative chest x-ray.
Requirements for timing and repeat testing vary by clinical site and information is provided by the Clinical Coordinator.

EMT Program Entrance Exam
The Fisdap entrance exam is required for enrollment into the Bay Area (Livermore) EMT Program. Please select from the dates available and register. If you do not see any available dates listed, please contact us for more information.
Prior to the day of your entrance exam, the Program Assistant will send you instructions and FISDAP code so you can complete your FISDAP registration.
Registration on the Fisdap website must be completed prior to coming to the campus for your exam. Although the exam is web based, the exam is proctored and must be taken onsite at the Livermore campus.
The entrance exam assesses EMT knowledge, reading comprehension, math, basic anatomy and physiology, and questions designed to reveal key personality traits and decision-making ability. It is recommended that testers review basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division,) and decimals and fractions before sitting for the exam.
Application processing cost: $55.00 (non-refundable.) Fee is transferable within 12 months. If you need to reschedule, please contact us.
Note: The exam takes approximately two hours.
