The Emergency Medical Service Management program prepares students to adapt, improvise, and overcome challenges in the EMS industry.

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program offers students a diversified education experience designed to develop strong field provider skills, as well as EMS management and leadership training. Students with the discipline and drive to successfully complete our programs, earn eligibility for both state and national licensing exams.

Located primarily at the Oregon Tech Portland-Metro campus, the BS degree in EMS Management is a joint Oregon Tech / Oregon Health and Science University degree that provides graduates with practical training in three core areas; general business management training, specific EMS industry management training and finally advanced clinical training.

This program is an excellent opportunity for practicing and certified paramedics that desire to leverage their field knowledge and experience into a management or leadership position within their organization or would simply like to advance their 2-year degree into a bachelor’s degree in order to pursue other graduate level work such as an MPH or an MBA.

What You’ll Learn
While your first two years are spent preparing for and then completing the paramedic program, your next two years are spent training and studying in three main areas:

We believe EMT education can be more than checking boxes required for certification. Our hands-on approach to learning the challenging field of EMS will prepare students to care for critical patients on day one of their career.

EMT
We believe strongly that EMS education should be as close to real-life as possible. Students are mentored by working paramedics to learn the dynamic environment of pre-hospital care. Our faculty prepare students for the stress of austere medicine by providing students with a firm foundation of technical knowledge, crisis management techniques, team leadership skills and therapeutic communication strategies.

The OHSU/Oregon Tech EMT program provides students opportunities to practice their craft through a unique combination of:

High-fidelity simulations with EMT and Paramedic teams.
Practice concepts of crew resource management, team leadership and followership.
Human cadaver invasive skills lab
Practice all skills within the EMT scope of practice on non-embalmed specimens
Forged over 40 years of EMS education, our partnerships with progressive EMS organizations provide students the experience of responding to 911 calls. Students spend 24 hours with metropolitan advanced life support ambulance and fire response crews. During rotations students have the opportunity to interact with patients in crisis and perform EMT skills under the supervision of their preceptor.
